Why is our reformer pilates “dynamic”?

The pilates reformer bed has existed for almost 60 years since its founder, Joseph Pilates, started to use this device in his studio in New York. It is essentially a sliding carriage and a series of strings which are used to provide resistance. Our classes are designed to “flow” from one exercise to another using either the string tension or your body weight to add challenge to each movement.

In “dynamic” pilates, we increase the challenge by bringing in resistance bands, the magic circle and dumbbells to provide greater load and more of a balance component.

This gives us the ability to take even the strongest and most competent pilates clients and provide them with a suitably challenging and effective session.

It also means that we can train a mixed-ability group of beginners and more advanced clients in one session because the instructor can progress or regress each exercise to ensure that each client has the appropriate challenge during the session.
